Hi all, I posted a couple of weeks ago under drugs as I have started anti tnf golimumab and unfortunately my first treatment coincided with my son being rushed into hospital after a type 4 haemorrage after being diagnosed with crohsn 3 days previously. anyway, as you can imagine it was extremely stressful and I was running on adrenalin for a while. I knew I would eventually flare and had hoped to get away with it but last weekend started to feel poorly, ie shivery etc, so I knew it was about to hit! It has and like previously when Ive had a really nasty flare it always manifests itself in my lower back and down my legs. My consultant is adamant that you cant get ra in your back, but this is the 3rd time this has happened, so Im a bit confused. Could this just be my weak point and my muscles/tensons etc are clenched or something??? I really dont know! Having said that this is the 3rd time Ive had a flare this bad but its not as bad as the other 2 so I can only presume that the anti tnf is perhaps working away in my body somewhere?

What do you all think??

Hope all of you are well!

Hi Heather

Just posting to say I m sorry you are having such a difficult time at the mo, although I really can not help you with this, I m sure will get some good advice. Like I have done, at times, you can always give the helpline a call, they are always very kind and understanding.

Thinking of you, Julia x

Hi Heather,

Sorry to hear you are flaring, just what you need after such a dreadful time with your son!
As you say, you were expecting it because we all know such stress can cause a flare. It's also fairly common to flare after starting a new drug, I was told this when I had my worst ever flare after starting humira. However, it settled down and the humira is working for me so hopefully this is what will happen with you.
As regards your lower back pain, you can get inflammation in the sacro-iliac joints with RA, I get this occasionally and ,like everything else, it eventually settles down.
Could you get a depo jab to help you get over the flare? Might be worth ringing your rheumy nurse tomorrow.
Hope things improve for you soon.
Love Doreen xx

Hi thanks for the replies. Must admit feeling better today, and trying not to overdo things. Difficult though as when the weather is this nice I just want to get out into the garden and potter!! I have been doing my stretching excercises the physio gave me last time I had this problem, so hopefully, wont have to take any time off work. Im hoping the rheummy urse will ring tomorrow as I left a message Friday afternoon.

Enjoy the sun everyone, lets hope its here for the long haul!!!

Hello HEather

So sorry to hear of your Son being so poorly, this would almost definately start a flare
with the stress and worry.

Would you be able to get a steriod injection to help you over this period from your Doc.
Worth giving your RA nurse a call.

Try and take it easier to help your symptoms.

Take care
